Every year, the first Friday in March is celebrated as Employee Appreciation Day. This year the important day falls on today i.e. March 5. Historically speaking, it was Dr Bob Nelson who introduced this day as an unofficial holiday. In 1995, he, also known to be the founding member of Recognition Professionals International, realised the fact that success of a company is heavily proportional to employee satisfaction and emphasized on the importance of boosting employee morale.
He was inspired by a study that concluded strengthening employee-employer bond by meting out due recognition would be highly beneficial. The Employee appreciation day was created to make room for acknowledging the hard work, the diligence of employees and bestowing them with due recognition, this day aims for bringing cheer and happiness to the workforce. Around 70% employees have expressed how they would feel motivated if bosses acknowledged or conveyed a ‘thank you’ to them for their labour, endeavours.
Appreciating anybody for his or her task do increase the confidence of receiver. The word “appreciation” looks smaller from outside but it can help achieve anything if used in a proper manner. This word is the most powerful word for motivating someone. If someone gets appreciated for a certain task then that person always gives his/her utmost best in all further tasks. This word is motivational, carrying a huge power inside and turn negative thoughts into positive. This is the magic of appreciation. Many people know how to make use of this word while others recognize its depth and meaning. If this word if used for a person, he/she can carry out any difficult task with low input energy. Many organizations and multinational companies are known for the culture of appreciation. This is the main reason behind the happiness of their employees. If there is a difficult task ahead and a team is unfamiliar with the ways to carry out that task, the team leader or manager tries to appreciate member or members for their previous task. This increases the inner power of that member.
Everyone in this world loves to receive appreciation for their tasks. If someone has done something for you then saying thank you is a just a formality but if you provide a motivational words like “good work”, “keep it up” or “excellent” along with the thank you then next time that person works with twice energy. Appreciating someone’s work is an art. Very few people know how to appreciate truly. They appropriately use appreciating words for other people to carry out effective and fruitful results. Therefore it is necessary to learn to appreciate others task and neglect their faults. If a person working for you feels uncomfortable with you then for sure there is a lack of appreciation. You need to appreciate his task along with the payments.“Appreciation” is not only limited to workplaces but it can be used anywhere .Appreciating someone’s efforts is not an act that makes you feels shy but it’s an act that proves your character. This act shows that you are living down to earth.
Therefore, it is necessary to appreciate a person wherever and whenever possible. It is a good way to make things easier and simpler. If appreciation is used properly, benefits are assured. Thus try to appreciate it instead of finding faults in anyone and you will see the changes for yourself.
