(the Second Online Travel, Varanasi)
History
The International Day of Happiness is observed every year worldwide on March 20 to highlight the importance of happiness in people’s daily lives. The theme of International Day of Happiness for this year is “Happiness For All, Forever”, which implies the significance of happiness for people worldwide. The day recognizes happiness as the most important need in any human’s life and links it to the overall well-being of human beings. The day also aims to establish the important role of happiness while setting public policy objectives throughout the day. Happiness is intrinsically related to equitable economic growth, thereby leading to sustainable development and the overall well-being of all people. International Day of Happiness has a truly global history regarding its creation. Back in 2011, the idea was introduced to the United Nations by the advisor Jayme Illien. Illien also founded the United Nations New Economic Paradigm project and ‘happytalism’, which aim to change the way nations approach economic growth by focusing on ‘happytalism’ over capitalism.
The General Assembly of the United Nations agreed with the proposal and officially founded the International Day of Happiness in July of 2012, with the occasion first being observed in 2013. The celebration acknowledges how important and desirable happiness is to people everywhere and how essential happiness is to be incorporated into public policy. International Day of Happiness is celebrated and hosted by various organizations, including Action for Happiness, Happinessday.org and the United Nations. Through these websites and social media, people can share inspirational stories about what makes them happy, how their happiness contributes to those around them and how it can pave the way towards a better future.
Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.
Happiness is something we cannot describe in words. You can feel it from someone’s expression of a smile. Likewise, happiness is a signal or identification of good and prosperous life. Happiness is very simple to feel and difficult to describe. Moreover, happiness comes from within, and no one can steal your happiness. Every day we see and meet people who look happy from the outside, but deep down, they are broken and are sad from the inside. For many people, money is the main cause of happiness or grief. But this doesn’t seem right. Money can buy you food, a luxurious house, a healthy lifestyle, servants, and many more facilities, but money can’t buy you happiness. If money can buy happiness, the rich would be the happiest person on the earth, but we see a contrary image of the rich as they are sad, fearful, anxious, stressed, and suffering from various problems. Also, due to money, they feel insecure that everyone is after their money, so to safeguard their money and them, they hire security. At the same time, the condition of the poor is just the opposite. They do not have money, but they are happy with and stress-free from these problems. We now know that we can’t buy happiness with money, and there is no other shortcut to happiness. It is something that you feel from within yourself. In addition, true happiness comes from within yourself. Happiness is a state of mind. One can achieve it by being positive and avoiding any negative thoughts in mind. If we look at the bright side of ourselves only then, we can be happy.
Happiness doesn’t depend on what we have, but it does depend on how we feel about what we have. We can be happy with little and miserable with much.
Happy World Happiness Day! If you choose to be happy today, happiness will come to you tomorrow! Whatsoever be the circumstances, try to be happy all day long.
