Mother Shailputri came to Kashi from Kailash; a story about this temple of mother Shailputri of Varanasi is quite popular. It is said that mother Parvati was born as the daughter of Himwan and called Shailputri. Once upon a time, Mother got angry with Lord Shiva about something and came to Kashi from Kailash. When Bholeath came here to please her, she urged Mahadev that she felt very dear to this place and did not want to go from there. The mother has been present here in this temple from that time onwards.
Every devotee who comes to see the mother is colored in the color of her divine form. The first form of Bhagwati Durga is of Shailputri. After being born here in the Himalayas, she was called Shailputri. Her vehicle is a Taurus, and she has Trishul in his right hand and Kamal in her left hand. She is also referred to as the form of Mata Parvati. It is believed that this form of Goddess had done harsh penance for Shiva. All the marital troubles are removed with her mere sight.
